Now image what would happen, if one or the other player is able to save and load anytime. That's in fact a cool feature - though I didn't played it with someone yet. Player 2 can join and leave whenever they want to. You can play the whole game in a coop-campaign (not onyl the special coop-missions). The more I think about the coop-play mechanism, how it works, there was no way to make use the old system anymore. I now understand better why they changed got rid of the (direct) savegame system. That is the thing I hate the most in this mechanic.īut we have to live with tthat in DS3 - they can't change it anymore. More badly, you can't really tell how "far" you will be thrown back if you leave now. I often ask myself in those situation: "Why the f*** I played yesterday longer just to restart at this point again?". Lost about more than 1 hour of gameplay due to that lately.

I can only hope that most game producers - at least in the PC versions - will not follow this kind of savegame-system. And this is in fact a hundred steps back in reasonable game features for PCs if you ask me. Yes - compared to Deadspace 1-2, in those you could save and load anytime, Dead Space 3 followed the game console mechanis in saving. But special items like artefacts and weapons parts will stay in you inventory and will not be aroudn anymore. You will continue the story on a (most likely) far away "checkpoint" and all the enemies and normal items to collect will be there again. When you leave it only saves your stats and inventory, not the game progress itself. What you describe is normal game mechanics. That's because I know it will sting me hard again. I have found myself with my eyes welling up at the dissapointment, even when it's going well. The really sad thing is I like the game so much. This is without doubt the worst save system I have seen. I even had to leave the game on and minimised while I went to eat. I was afraid I would loose too much progress if I quit.

Plus I can't go in to do the voluntary missions.
I have lost probably 2-3 hours game time that I battled around that complex yesterday. I have to resign myself to the fact I have lost that part of the game. I have run round the whole area where the key-card was yesterday and it's not there. The door is locked so I can't get back in. I don't even know if it has counted that I have done the long battle I had getting around that whole place yesterday. As I though there must have been a progress save recently I thought I should be fine to quit for a rest. Anyway I had such a hard time in D212 getting around, and when I was outside there was an 'inventory save' notice. I wasn't sure which way was the main mission route which I might not be able to return from. I thought do I go that way or the other way which was through a place where you have to have a snow-suit. Anyway I left the module and went out side. There was a module in there where you could choose to go and do what I think were optional missions. Yesterday I went all the way round supply depot D212. There just doesn't seem to be enough common sense save points. I had to quit and go back to the tram and start that bit again. I found if I stopped on the way and picked up more than the odd ammo, I lost my inventory spare-parts etc. Then travel to mid-aft, stop, and then travel on to far-aft. I had to battle to get onto the tram again. However I was back at the start of the tram-ride. I have the spare parts and circuits that I retrieved in the mid-aft. What is with the save system? Seriously EA, why spoil a good game with this?ĮDIT: Actually I have discovered that the game saved my inventory. If it crashes I'll have it all to do again. To play that I am going to have to play for about 2 hours solid to finish it I guess. That part of that level is hard, long, and lots to do. I have died about 25 times before I got angry and came here to complain. I mean gettting on the tram is no easy feat. I got to a tough bit that I had to repeat about thirty times, thought sod it and quit for a rest. Later I start-up game to try again and I have to play the whole thing again coz I am back in the tram station. I had done all the work, and was on my way out. You start that mission in a tram station. It's the first stop on the tram ride, mid-aft of the space-ship. Now, in chapter 5 I think, where you have to get to a dude called Edwards, for supplies. On top of that I had to replay it twice because the first time I replayed it and nearly finished, the game crashed. It saves at the start of the mission only. I did the Greely, quit half way through, came back, had to do it all again. What the hell is the save game system in Dead Space 3.
